The next General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. The election will be for for three (3) Council Member District Seats (Districts 1, 4 & 5), each for a term of four (4) years.

The nomination period for residents (District Nos. 1, 4 and 5) interested in running as a candidate opens July 13, 2020.  

In light of COVID-19 and the current health conditions, the Office of the City Clerk is taking steps to ensure all candidates and City staff have a healthy and safe environment during the candidate filing process.

The Office of the City Clerk will issue and accept official nomination documents by appointment during regular business hours, Monday, July 13, 2020 through Friday, August 7, 2020 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In the effort to promote and maintain effective social distancing, the Office of the City Clerk will be limit the number of appointments occurring in the office at one time.

Eligibility to Run for Anaheim City Council



  • A citizen of the United States
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Mayor: A resident and qualified elector of the City of Anaheim, at least 30 days immediately preceding the filing of nomination papers
  • Council Member: A resident and qualified elector of the respective district, at least 30 days immediately preceding the filing of nomination papers
