ANAHEIM, Calif. (Oct. 17, 2017) — Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait on Wednesday will join FBI officials, drug treatment providers and others for a look at the opioid crisis in Orange County and a special screening of “Chasing the Dragon: The Life of an Opiate Addict.”
The 45-minute documentary includes first-person accounts of those who have abused opioids as well as parents of children who have struggled with addiction.
Produced by the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Agency, “Chasing the Dragon” is being shown as part of the ongoing efforts of Drug Free Anaheim, a city treatment referral program, and the Orange County Re-Entry Partnership, which works to link those recently released from prison or jail lead productive, healthy lives.
The event also includes a panel discussion on the opioid crisis in Orange County. The panel is set to include Mayor Tait, Mitch Cherness of the Orange County Health Care Agency, Cory Brosch of Phoenix House and a representative from the FBI.
Attendees also will hear from Monica Watts, a doctor and addiction expert.
The goal of the event is to better understand the scope of the opioid crisis locally, what’s being done about it today and how those addressing the problem can have maximum impact going forward.
