ANAHEIM FIRE & RESCUE DISPLAYS USE OF GOATS IN WEED ABATEMENT

Fire Press Release

ANAHEIM, CALIF (April 26, 2017) – For the past few years, Anaheim Fire & Rescue has enlisted the use of goats as an element of our strategic plan for wildland fire prevention in certain areas of the city that are vulnerable to wildland fire. The use of goats as a method of natural weed abatement is a recognized practice that maintains the integrity of the ecosystem, while ensuring the potentially dangerous fuels for wildland fires are kept to a minimum. Record rainfall this past winter has contributed to significant growth of the natural landscape, which in turn can become fuel for fires later in the season.

Hundreds of goats are currently in use at Pelanconi Park, 222 S. Avenida Margarita in Anaheim and will be available for media photography/videography from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Thursday, April 27, 2016.
