ANAHEIM, CALIF (July 12, 2017) – Anaheim detectives are seeking potential victims of a scam involving event planning for weddings, quinceaneras, and other special events. In the fall of 2016, an investigation was launched after reports were received from several families who had paid between $6000 and $15,000 to an event planner who had defrauded them of substantial sums of money.
The suspect has been identified as Byron Vinicio Sanchez, but has also used the names of Lester Perez, Byron Sanchez Alonzo, and Jairo Perez. Sanchez would enter into contracts with his victims to plan and organize their events, but would not arrange for any of the services for which he was paid.
On June 28, 2017, Sanchez was arrested for three counts of grand theft and three counts of theft by false pretense. He remains in custody at Orange County Jail without bail. Since his arrest, detectives have located numerous additional victims from throughout Orange and Los Angeles counties and believe there are potentially numerous additional families who have been victimized by Sanchez. Anyone who believes they were a victim of Sanchez’ scam is encouraged to contact CrimeStoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS or by email at www.occrimestoppers.org.
Some of the victims of this scam will make themselves available for media interviews at the Anaheim Police Department main station on Wednesday July 19th at 12:30 pm.
