| ANAHEIM, CA - (June 3, 2008) - Amid their long practices and world travels, the U.S. Men’s Olympic Volleyball Team made one very important stop at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) on Friday, May 30. The athletes met with the children and their families, signed autographs and took photos.
"CHOC is excited to have the U.S. Men's Volleyball Team visit our patients,” said Emily Grankowski, Interim Manager of Child Life and Special Programs Coordinator at CHOC. “The visit is a real treat, providing a positive distraction for the children and families we serve."
As they embark on their journey to the Olympics, the athletes are committed to giving back to the community. “Visiting these young patients at CHOC is an incredible experience for our team” said Coach Hugh McCutcheon. “We are always working on keeping a positive attitude so that we can be good role models for children. However, the children at CHOC have been an inspiration to us. Some of them spend days at a time in the hospital and still keep a positive attitude. That kind of optimism and courage is inspiring. We are humbled by it and I know the athletes will carry this time with them as they journey on the Olympic Games, and forever in their careers.”
The U.S. Men’s Olympic Volleyball Team is currently ranked No. 3 in the world and competes in approximately 50 matches annually. Based out of Anaheim, the team holds open practices and plays at the American Sports Centers. For more information regarding the U.S. Men’s Olympic Volleyball Team, visit www.anaheim.net.
