Anaheim Tennis Center Renovations Celebrated
ANAHEIM, CA - (June 20, 2008) - The popular and recently renovated Anaheim Tennis Center will be celebrated for its current and future upgrades at an on-site ceremony on Tuesday, June 24 from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle will unveil a special plaque to commemorate the occasion at the Center, located at 975 S. State College Blvd. (north of Ball Road).

The renovations are part of a 20-year lease agreement the City entered with Mike Nelson’s Orange County Tennis Academy, Inc., with the goal to provide recreational and competitive tennis programming for the general public. Mike Nelson has been an established voice in Orange County tennis for the past 27 years.

Since taking over in September 2007, Nelson has provided more than $145,000 worth of court-area improvements, including resurfacing, lighting, fencing restoration and windscreen replacement, as well as redesigning the ball machine/practice area. The City also contributed to the Tennis Center’s interior and exterior upgrades, focusing on landscaping, parking lot lighting, upgraded electrical wiring, and painting inside and out.

Future improvements include plans for infrastructure and cosmetic renovations to the clubhouse, as well as a proposed center championship tennis court with accommodations for up to 200 spectators.

Anaheim’s City Council members are anticipated to select the design consultant at the June 24 Council Meeting. The city distributed Request For Proposals (RFP) to 15 consultant firms.

The Anaheim Tennis Center, originally built in 1977, is equipped with 12 lighted tennis courts and a practice court, and includes the Wagner House, named for the former Wagner family residence on the property.
