| ANAHEIM, CA - (July 11, 2008) - The City of Anaheim received a generous grant of $2.5 million dollars from the State of California Resources Agency for the purpose to create public access on nearly two miles of the Burris Basin Trail.
The grant specifically calls for landscape improvements, adding trail amenities, such as two nature observation decks, benches, a split rail fence, litter receptacles, and the installation of a parking area with a restroom facility.
The $2.5 million grant awarded to the City of Anaheim is part of a $20.5 million grant distributed to 19 other river parkway projects throughout the State. In all, the funds provided will support more than 2,650 acres of wildlife habitat restoration and land acquisition.
The California River Parkways Program, a competitive grant program administered by the Secretary for Resources, awards funds to public agencies and non-profit organizations to develop river parkways in their communities. In 2002, California voters passed Proposition 50, the Water Security, Clean Drinking Water, Coastal and Beach Protection Act of 2002, that authorized the Legislature to appropriate funds to benefit river parkway projects.
