13th Marine Expeditionary Unit To Hold Car Wash In Anaheim
ANAHEIM, CA - (August 15, 2008) - The Anaheim Marine Adoption Committee and the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) invite the community to a car wash fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Members of the committee and approximately 50 Marines from the 13th MEU will be on hand at the car wash, which will take place at the East Anaheim Community Center, located at 8201 East Santa Ana Canyon Rd., in Anaheim.

Voluntary donations will be accepted for washing the cars. All proceeds will be given to the Marines and their families.

The City of Anaheim adopted the 13th MEU in Oct. 2007, to show support and appreciation for members of the United States Armed Forces. In March of this year, the City, along with the Anaheim Marine Adoption Committee, formally celebrated the adoption with a ceremony at the Anaheim Downtown Community Center.

To date, the committee has supported the unit and their families through soliciting gifts and donations.

Comprised of approximately 2,200 marines and sailors stationed at Camp Pendleton, the 13th MEU supports a variety of operations locally, nationally and internationally. The 13th MEU team, together with U.S. Navy forces, serves as the nation’s forward deployed, quick response team, and is capable of accomplishing numerous missions around the globe. As one of three West Coast MEUs, the 13th MEU is routinely rotated through the Western Pacific/Southwest Asia region for six months as a time. The 13th MEU capabilities include amphibious operations, maritime special operations, peacekeeping operations and supporting operations.
