ANAHEIM, CA - (October 3, 2008) - Please be advised that Anaheim Blvd. between Broadway and Lincoln will close Friday, Oct. 3 at 12 p.m. and will reopen on Monday, Oct. 6 at 6 a.m., due to Anaheim's MUZEO gala and concert to open the newest exhibit, Under African Skies. The exhibit opens to the public on Sunday, Oct. 5. Under African Skies is an all-new 10,000 square-foot exhibit at the MUZEO which explores the many facets of Africa, its traditions, stories, land, rich cultural history and its diverse population. Under African Skies will feature a photo exhibit – Sudan: The Land and The People, an impressive exhibition of 70 extraordinary images of the rich ethnic, cultural and geographical diversity of Africa’s largest country. The featured photographs are drawn from the recent book “Sudan: The Land and the People,” written by U.S. Ambassador Timothy Carney and his wife and collaborator Victoria Butler. Award-winning photographer Michael Freeman spent more than two years gathering compelling images of all aspects of Sudanese life. This photo exhibition, augmented by the lavishly illustrated book and informative text, together with an Education Guide geared for secondary school and university students, will help American audiences to better understand this little-known region.
Inaugurating the new exhibit will be South African singing group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, performing a special 75-minute concert at the Downtown Anaheim Pavilion, next to the MUZEO, on Sunday at 2 p.m. Noted for their intricate harmonies on Paul Simon’s groundbreaking 1986 album “Graceland,” the group is considered influential in introducing world music to mainstream audiences. Ladysmith Black Mambazo has since garnered two Grammyâ Awards and thirteen nominations. For more information please visit www.anaheim.net, or www.muzeo.org.
