Anaheim High School Students Go To The Polls This Fall
ANAHEIM, CA - (October 7, 2008) - MyBallot program introduces voting practices to high school students. Speakers to include Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle, Registrar of Voters Neal Kelley, and special guest Secretary of State Debra Bowen.

Anaheim High School senior students are going to the polls this fall.

MyBallot is an innovative program designed to teach students about the American democratic process and emphasize the importance of voting. MyBallot, a partnership among the Orange County Registrar of Voters, the City of Anaheim and the Anaheim Union High School District, will be the topic of a special assembly for Anaheim High School senior students on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

The assembly will feature speakers Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle and Orange County Registrar of Voters Neal Kelley, with special guest Secretary of State Debra Bowen.

MyBallot, however, involves more than a verbal presentation. It is a comprehensive 3-step series which includes in-class lessons on the history of voting, creating ballots and vote tabulation. The powerful curriculum builds on students’ skills in English, Math and Civics.

Following the assembly students will join Secretary of State Bowen on a tour of the Registrar of Voters’ mobile voting unit that will on the school campus.

Students will have the opportunity to study two separate issues, then vote on actual voting machines. One issue is a mock presidential election; the other is an actual election for the school’s homecoming court. The machines, courtesy of the Registrar of Voters, will be brought to campus and on Oct. 10, the students will cast their votes for the court.

Media can park on Ohio Street, directly adjacent to Cook Auditorium.
