| ANAHEIM, CA - (November 3, 2008) - The City of Anaheim, in conjunction with the Orange County Health Care Agency, will give free flu shots on Friday, Nov. 7 at Magnolia Baptist Church, 720 S. Magnolia Ave. in Anaheim. Unique to this opportunity is that this is a drive-thru arrangement. Upon approaching the church, drivers will stay in their cars, and medical staff will administer the shots to the individual(s) in the cars.
Flu shots will be administered from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The church will arrange for five drive-thru lanes in their parking lot for smooth and quick traffic flow.
This is the fifth year the Orange County Health Care Agency has worked with cities and other local organizations to stage a Point of Dispensing (POD) exercise. A POD exercise is practice for quickly dispensing mass vaccinations if needed. POD sites would be essential in providing medications, vaccines or other needed medical supplies to Orange County’s population of more than 3,000,000 people during a public health emergency. Eight (8) POD sites would be needed to cover the population of the City of Anaheim, and approximately 75 PODs would be needed to serve the entire country. The free flu shots provide an incentive for the public to participate in this emergency preparedness exercise.
Magnolia Baptist Church is participating in this exercise for the first time along with the City of Anaheim. Approximately 1,500 doses of the flu vaccine will be available at their site, in both children and adult doses. Other organizations are encouraged to contact the Orange County Health Care Agency at ww.ochealthinfo.com or call (714) 834-4722 for more information on becoming a POD site.
Partners in the Anaheim free flu shot and POD exercise include the City of Anaheim, the Anaheim Fire Department, the Anaheim Police Department, Anaheim Community Emergency Response Teams, Anaheim RACES, Magnolia Baptist Church, Care Ambulance Company, American Red Cross (Orange County), Orange County Health Care Agency, Cypress College Nursing Program, Grace Bible Church, Cal State Fullerton Nursing Program, and the Children and Families Commission of Orange County.
