|Anaheim Mayor’s TechScholar Program Applications Now Available|
ANAHEIM, CA - (February 3, 2009) - The City of Anaheim is pleased to announce that applications for the Mayor’s TechScholar Program are currently available. Established by Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle in 2006, this program provides laptop computers and up to two years of internet access for selected high school students.
"Hard-working and determined high school students should be rewarded for their efforts,” said Mayor Pringle. “The Mayor’s TechScholar Program is one avenue for high school students residing in Anaheim to receive the resources they need to succeed in their lives and their careers. This program is special to me, and I am grateful to our sponsor partners for continuing their support of Anaheim’s future leaders."
College-bound high school students in their sophomore or junior years attending a public or private high school and residing in Anaheim are eligible to apply. Applications are available online at www.anaheim.net, and are due March 10, 2009 to their respective high school coordinators. Student applications are assessed based on need, strong academic promise and completion of an essay. More than 130 students have benefitted from this program since its inception.
Students selected as this year’s winners will be honored on May 19 at an afternoon ceremony hosted by Mayor Pringle, as well as at the Anaheim City Council Meeting that same evening. The Mayor’s TechScholar Program is sponsored this year by local Anaheim companies, including Anaheim Public Utilities, Time Warner Cable, AT&T, and EDS.
