Anaheim Celebrates the Lincoln Bicentennial
ANAHEIM, CA - (February 6, 2009) - WHAT:
Throughout the city, Anaheim libraries will celebrate the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday with story times and crafts, as well as a special public forum featuring Lincoln Scholar Dr. Ronald Rietveld.  The Lincoln Bicentennial is being celebrated throughout the country, and this special occasion gives the City of Anaheim the opportunity to examine the Lincoln legacy.

WHERE / TIMES:
Lincoln story times and Lincoln-related crafts for children to make will be offered at the following Anaheim libraries --

Central, Euclid and Haskett Libraries: Feb. 10 at 3:30 p.m.
Sunkist Library: Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
East Anaheim Library: Feb. 11 at 11 a.m.
Canyon Hills Library: Feb. 13 at 10:30 a.m. and Feb. 17 at 7 p.m.

The Canyon Hills Library will also feature a history program with Dr. Reitveld on Feb. 23.  The program will begin at 6:15 p.m. with a musical trio playing selections from the Civil War era.  At 7 p.m. Dr. Rietveld will speak on his years as a Lincoln researcher and the emancipation of the slaves.  Dr. Rietveld is an advisor to the United States Lincoln Bicentennial Committee and Professor of History Emeritus, California State University, Fullerton.   He is the finder of the only existing photograph of President Lincoln in his death, and was 14-years-old and well-acquainted with Lincoln’s history at the time of the discovery.
