| ANAHEIM, CA - (February 20, 2009) - The City of Anaheim will celebrate the grand opening of Elm Street Commons, the newest affordable housing development available in the City for very low and low income families, on Feb. 24 at 11:30 a.m., at 111 W. Elm Street. Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle will have the honor of cutting the ceremonial red ribbon.
"Elm Street Commons will provide additional quality housing and community amenities for Anaheim’s residents. Any family in Anaheim should have the opportunity to live and prosper in their surroundings," said Mayor Pringle.
Elm Street Commons, a 52-unit apartment development, is located on the corner of Elm Street and Anaheim Boulevard in the downtown area. The project has landscaped walkways and plazas, and also includes a community center, leasing office, private balconies, tot lot, subterranean parking, and housing for on-site management. Elm Street Commons is close to major transportation, parks, schools, a hospital, grocery store, public library, the MUZEO, and other retail outlets.
The completion of Elm Street Commons adds to the recent developments in and around the Downtown area. In the past few years, developments by the CIM Group, John Laing Homes, and Brookfield Homes have added to the residential fabric of Anaheim’s Downtown. Elm Street Commons also brings the number of affordable housing units built in Anaheim to 500 since December, 2007. More than 1,000 additional affordable units are in the process of being developed throughout the City.
This development was a joint effort among developers SADI, LLC (Squier and Advanced Development Investments) and the Anaheim Housing Authority/City of Anaheim. The architect who designed the "Spanish" style architecture is Withee Malcolm Architects, LLP. Pacific Housing Diversified served as the contractor, and public/private investors include Hanmi Bank, Red Capital Markets, Inc., California Community Reinvestment Corporation, the City of Anaheim and the Anaheim Housing Authority.
