ANAHEIM, CA - (September 25, 2009) - On Tuesday morning, Oct. 6, 5,000 third grade students will converge upon the Anaheim Convention Center Arena, and be treated to the third annual The Gift of History event. Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle will welcome the students to this event where they will learn about the City’s 152-year history. Students from six school districts and private schools in Anaheim, were invited to participate in the third annual event.
“The Gift of History is an important event for us, and for every third grade student in Anaheim,” said Mayor Pringle. “This event is a collaboration with business and civic leaders who seek to show the next generation the value of their hometown in understanding history and their own future potential as active citizens of Anaheim.”
What does 5,000 third-graders look like? Nearly filling the right and left field pavilions at Angel Stadium of Anaheim or the lower level (plaza level) at Honda Center, or twice filling The Grove of Anaheim.
Students will begin arriving at 9 a.m. and immediately line-up to enter the Arena. The program, which begins at 10 a.m., will feature Mayor Pringle, author Gail Eastman, a performance by the Anaheim Ballet, members of the USA Men’s National Volleyball Team, and special guests from Disney.
The program concludes at 10:45 a.m., and upon exiting the Arena each child will receive a colorful backpack, compliments of the Office Depot Foundation, filled with fun and educational items. Each backpack will include the book, “Anna’s Home by the River” written by Gail Eastman, one free child’s ticket for admission to the Napoleon exhibit at Anaheim’s Muzeo, school supplies from Anaheim Public Utilities, and a “fireman’s hat, compliments of the Anaheim Fire Department.
The donation of backpacks to Anaheim’s third grade students is part of the 2 million backpacks that have been provided to non-profit organizations and schools across the U.S. and Canada through the Office Depot Foundation National Backpack Program.
The Gift of History is entirely charitably funded by sponsors, including AT & T, The Disneyland Resort, Office Depot Foundation, Extron Electronics, Brookfield Homes, and the Muzeo.
