|Anaheim to Honor Veterans and Current Military Members at Local Ceremony|
ANAHEIM, CA - (November 4, 2010) - Military veterans as well as men and women currently serving in the military will be honored at the City of Anaheim’s Veterans Day ceremony, taking place Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m. at City Hall. Decorated Vietnam veteran Frans VandenBroek will serve as the keynote speaker, and eight military banners will be unveiled, adding to the City’s colorful commemoration of those serving and protecting the United States. The public and the media are invited to attend this patriotic celebration.
In addition to honoring Veterans, the military banners to be unveiled will honor Anaheim residents currently serving in the military. The City of Anaheim created the Military Banner program in the Fall of 2009 as a way for the City to recognize Anaheim residents currently serving in the military. The program was also highlighted by City of Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle during his Jan. 26, 2010 State of the City speech. The men representing the eight new banners are listed below, bringing the total number of Anaheim resident representation to 38:
Richard Madrid, Navy
Joining Anaheim City Council members and speaker VandenBroek at the ceremony will be color guards from four local high school Junior ROTC programs that present the colors: Magnolia High School, Anaheim High School, Orange High School, as well as Buena Park High School. In addition, singer Kristen Romero will sing patriotic songs for everyone to enjoy. The event will be emceed by Charles Dryer, himself a former Marine Sergeant.
Anaheim City Hall is located at 200 S. Anaheim Blvd., Anaheim 92805. Public parking is available behind City Hall, off Broadway Ave.
