|Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait To Participate In April 9 Adopt A Neighborhood Program|
ANAHEIM, CA - (April 7, 2011) - Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait will join local Boy Scout members, the Anaheim Rotary Club, Anaheim Beautiful, and City of Anaheim representatives and residents at an Adopt-a-Neighborhood clean-up event on Saturday, April 9, from 9 a.m. - noon. The Balsam-Curtis area, near State College Blvd. and Romneya Street, will be the beneficiary of this collective neighborhood beautification effort.
"Neighborhoods are the backbone of Anaheim, and I look forward to spending this Saturday morning with the boy scout troop and other volunteers as we do our part to improve neighborhoods in our community," said Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait. "Volunteering at functions such as the Adopt-a-Neighborhood event is personally very rewarding, and it gives all those who participate an opportunity to enrich the quality of life in Anaheim."
The Adopt-a-Neighborhood program is a proactive program formed as a result of the citywide Anaheim Community Anti-Graffiti Effort (ACAGE). In May 2008 the City formed ACAGE as a collaborative effort with city staff, residents, community leaders and the business community, to eradicate graffiti in Anaheim. ACAGE focuses on a variety of fronts, including education, protection of property, prompt removal, applicable justice efforts and collaborating with local programs serving Anaheim youth to reinforce the negative consequences of graffiti.
The Adopt-a-Neighborhood program officially began in 2009. The Adopt-a-Neighborhood programs brings together residents, community groups, the City's Police, Code Enforcement and Neighborhood Services departments, and the community group, Anaheim Beautiful, for selected weekend dates of graffiti paint-out and litter clean-up. The Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs have volunteered to participate and have eagerly joined in the clean-up efforts and to improve local neighborhoods, with great success.
