| The Journey To London Begins In Anaheim! | ||||||||||||

ANAHEIM, CA - (April 18, 2012) - Today marks 100 days to the 2012 London Olympic Games, and for USA Volleyball the Journey to London begins in Anaheim! Residents, businesses and guests are encouraged to display their Olympic Spirit and join Anaheim - the Official Host City of the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Volleyball Teams - in looking forward to an exciting summer.
Players and coaches visited Mayor Tom Tait and the City Council members at last night’s City Council meeting to share their appreciation of the community’s support as they train in Anaheim. Men’s Team head coach Alan Knipe and Women’s Team assistant coach and three-time Olympian Karch Kiraly were joined by Women’s Team player and four-time Olympian Danielle Scott-Arruda, and Men’s Team player Matt Anderson. “This is an exciting year for Anaheim sports teams, and we couldn’t be more proud of the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Volleyball Team athletes who train right here in Anaheim,” said Mayor Tom Tait. “There’s nothing like the Olympic Games to make one swell with pride! We will watch these world-class athletes with great anticipation this summer, knowing they represent not just Anaheim and Orange County, but our entire country. Go Team USA!” The Women’s Team, led by head coach Hugh McCutcheon and currently ranked #1 in the world, has qualified to participate in the London Games and will seek to best their 2008 Olympics Silver Medal win. The Men’s Team, currently ranked #6 in the world, continues the path towards qualification and the opportunity to defend its 2008 Gold Medal win. Since 2006 Anaheim has been identified as a United States city with international sports distinction and American pride experienced every four years through the phenomenon of the Olympic Games. The Men’s Team moved its training headquarters to Anaheim from Colorado Springs, Colo. in 2006, followed by the Women’s Team in 2009.
