Anaheim Convention Center Receives 2012 Venue Excellence Award
ANAHEIM, CA - (August 17, 2012) - The Anaheim Convention Center was recently awarded the 2012 Venue Excellence Award, given by the International Association of Venue Managers, the world’s largest professional association dedicated to the management of public assembly venues.

The Anaheim Convention Center was acknowledged as the best of the best in the convention center category. The Venue Excellence Award is presented annually in recognition of each of the four IAVM venue types (convention centers, stadiums, arenas and performing arts centers).

“The Anaheim Convention Center attracts millions of visitors each year, and we are proud the venue continues to be recognized as one of the world’s top facilities,” said Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait. “Anaheim is a world-class destination, and with the completion of our Grand Plaza in January 2013, our Anaheim Convention Center will be second to none in its ability to serve our business and convention travelers.”

“On behalf of the Anaheim Convention Center, we are honored to be selected for this highly respected industry award,” said Tom Morton, City of Anaheim Executive Director for Convention, Sports and Entertainment. “It is a true reflection of our team’s hard work and dedication in serving our guests. It is also a reflection of the City’s commitment, working collaboratively with our industry partners, to insure that we meet, and exceed, the needs of our customers today and tomorrow.”

The venues were evaluated based on four critical criteria: operational excellence, service to the community, team building/professional development and safety and security. These criteria complement the IAVM Value Statements of integrity, service, safety, education, advocacy, and people first.

The 2012 award winners are as follows:

  • Arenas — Sydney Entertainment Center
  • Convention Centers — Anaheim Convention Center
  • Performing Arts Centers — Mesa Arts Center
  • Stadiums — University of Phoenix Stadium
  • Venue Education — Indiana University

Anaheim first became a meetings and conventions destination in 1967 with the construction of the domed Arena which stands on Katella Avenue. Since those early days, the Anaheim Convention Center has gone through five major expansion projects plus several cosmetic renovations to update the Center. Each expansion added another major exhibit hall plus meeting space. The last major expansion completed in the year 2000 resulted in a complete transformation of the Anaheim Convention Center and surrounding campus. The Anaheim Convention Center Grand Plaza, which is expected to be completed in January 2013, will offer meeting planners the opportunity for large outdoor gatherings including alfresco dining, concerts, receptions, exhibitions, meetings and more. The Grand Plaza's singular design will make it unique among outdoor event venues and extremely versatile to accommodate almost any event.
