ANAHEIM, CA - (January 30, 2013) - The Anaheim City Council, at last night’s meeting, unanimously approved the addition of Spanish language translation services at all future City Council meetings for a one-year trial period, effective at the next regularly scheduled City Council meeting on Feb. 5.
City staff will provide the Spanish translation services during the public comment portion of the meeting, for anyone wishing to address the Council directly. For residents wishing to receive English-to-Spanish translation, the use of listening devices (headsets) will be utilized. The headsets will be made available during the first hour of the meeting, or as long as translation services are being provided. Prior to last night’s decision expanding translation services at all City Council meetings, translation services were provided by the City, upon request. The City currently offers a number of other translation services through various means: the City’s website, www.anaheim.net, offers a feature for translating text into several languages, the quarterly Neighborhood District meetings are staffed by city staff members bilingual in English and Spanish, with additional language services available with notice no later than 10 a.m. the day preceding the meeting, and translation services for anyone visiting City Hall, directly through city employees or through an over-the-phone translation service. Approximately nine languages are spoken by City employees certified in their respective language. City Council meetings are held at in the Council Chambers at Anaheim City Hall, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd., Anaheim, CA 92805. Meetings begin at 5 p.m. unless otherwise notes. Meetings are streamed live and archived on www.anaheim.net, and broadcast on Anaheim Community Television Channel 3 (ACTV3). The meetings are replayed at various times on ACTV3. The 2013 City Council meeting calendar, agenda and related information is posted on the City Clerk page at www.anaheim.net, or by clicking here. Media Contact: Ruth Ruiz 714.765.5060more city news
