Anaheim City Council Approves Marcie Edwards As City Manager
ANAHEIM, CA - (July 23, 2013) - The Anaheim City Council tonight announced the unanimous approval of Marcie Edwards as Anaheim’s City Manager, and the first female in this position since Anaheim’s founding in 1857.

Edwards had been serving as interim City Manager since May 1. Following an extensive nationwide recruitment process, Edwards was the choice of the City Council to provide administrative oversight of the 10th largest city in California. Anaheim is a charter city with more than 346,000 residents and a total operating budget of $1.6 billion, and provides a full spectrum of city services, including Police, Fire, Utilities, Community Services, Planning, Public Works, Community Development, and a variety of internal support Departments.

“Marcie Edwards is a strong and visionary leader who served Anaheim well at the helm of Anaheim Public Utilities,” said Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait. “I congratulate Marcie on her new role as City Manager and look forward to working with her to keep city government transparent, efficient and responsive. I know, working together, that we can accomplish great things for our city’s residents, businesses and guests.”

Prior to her interim City Manager position, Edwards served as the Anaheim Public Utilities General Manager since January of 2001. Between 2009 and 2011 she did two years of “double duty” for the City of Anaheim, serving as the Utility General Manager and also as the Deputy and Assistant City Manager.

Prior to her appointment as City Manager, Edwards was the General Manager of Anaheim’s municipal water and electric utility. A 35 year veteran of the utility industry, she came to Anaheim in 2001 from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). At LADWP, she advanced from craft level positions in the 1970’s, to management in the late 80’s. Prior to coming to Anaheim, Edwards was an Assistant General Manager at LADWP with experience in oversight of electric operations, engineering, transmission line construction and maintenance, and overall utility customer service, as well as managed a $1.3 billion budget and approximately 3,000 employees in two major Divisions.

Edwards is currently a Board Member on CleanTechOC, and a founding Board member of the Association of Women in Water and Energy. She is a past Board member of the Anaheim Community Foundation, a past regional member of the National Board of the American Public Power Association, past President of the California Municipal Utilities Association, past Vice Chair of the Metropolitan Water District Board, and past President of the Southern California Public Power Authority. A past Governor on the California Independent System Operator Board, Edwards also served as interim CEO of that agency in 2004, and, in that role, assisted in avoiding statewide power outages during the Energy Crisis.

Edwards received her bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management, as well as her master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of La Verne.

She is married with one grown son.
