|City Releases Comprehensive Study Of Costs For Core Services By Neighborhood|
ANAHEIM, CA - (August 14, 2013) - The City of Anaheim is pleased to present the results from a comprehensive study of budgeted General Fund expenditures for core services by neighborhoods throughout Anaheim. In July, Council Member Kris Murray and Mayor Pro Tem Gail Eastman had requested that staff create a report that provides a snapshot of how city resources are allocated citywide. The study analyzed total dollars allocated, the amount per capita and amount per square mile costs, measured by ongoing programs, city services, amenities and infrastructure, such as parks, community centers and libraries.
The study concluded there is a consistent distribution of resources throughout Anaheim’s west, central, south and east neighborhoods. The cost per capita outlines the City’s commitment to all residents throughout Anaheim’s 50 square miles. Of note, the Anaheim Resort area (in the south neighborhood) was not included in this study as the Resort pays for its costs of services and also contributes a portion of its economic benefit to the overall General Fund.
Furthermore, with regard to the City’s Capital Improvement Fund (CIP) the results indicate that between 2005 and 2012, there is a fairly equal share of resources spread throughout the City, with the majority of funds dedicated to projects within the west and central portions of Anaheim. Additionally, future plans for major capital improvement illustrates a commitment to meeting the needs of Anaheim’s older and more distressed neighborhoods in the western and central portions of the City.
A presentation of the report was made at last night’s City Council meeting. For a full copy of the report please visit www.anaheim.net, or by clicking here. To watch a recording of last night’s presentation please click here (please jump to item #23).
