|Join Anaheim In Celebration Of Public Power Week October 6-12, 2013|
ANAHEIM, CA - (September 26, 2013) - Anaheim joins electric utilities across the country in celebration of Public Power Week October 6-12, 2013. As the only municipal electric utility in Orange County, Anaheim Public Utilities delivers essential electricity to more than 346,000 residents and 15,000 businesses including manufacturing, entertainment, sports and tourism customers. The community is invited to join Anaheim Public Utilities in this celebration on Thursday, October 10 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Downtown Anaheim Farmers Market, where the utility will be hosting a variety of exhibits on energy conservation, electric vehicles, emergency preparedness, and electrical safety. In addition, the public will be able to take a ride in bucket trucks for a bird’s eye view of the city.
“Public Power Week is a great opportunity to showcase the value of a locally-owned utility,” said Dukku Lee, Assistant General Manager of Electric Services. “Our public utility is a valuable community asset as decisions are made in the best interest of Anaheim customers and the local economy. As a municipal not-for-profit utility, our rates are based on providing high quality electric service at the lowest average costs in the surrounding area.”
Anaheim Public Utilities is known for its innovative approach to electric service as evidenced by Park Substation, the first underground substation in the U.S., the Underground Conversion Program that beautifies major roadways by placing overhead power lines underground, and the Canyon Power Project, the city’s Silver LEED certified, 200-megawatt natural gas generating facility located in an industrial area, which serves the power needs of Anaheim’s customers when demand is highest and supply is scarce.
In addition, Anaheim Public Utilities offers a wide range of energy efficiency programs that help customers reduce their bills including free energy surveys of homes and businesses, rebates on appliances, and free shade trees that reduce air conditioning use.
