WEST ANAHEIM IMPROVEMENTS BENEFIT RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES
ANAHEIM, CA - (June 13, 2014) -

Residents in West Anaheim received good news this week.  The West Anaheim Bike Trail officially opened, and the City received a grant for nearly $500,000 for a West Anaheim stakeholder outreach plan to identify ways to enhance the area’s economic potential to complement and support the nearby neighborhoods.

West Anaheim Bike Trail
On Monday, the West Anaheim Bike Trail officially opened.  The West Anaheim Bike Trail is a 1-mile long bicycle and pedestrian paved path constructed within the Edison (SCE) Easement. The trail runs on the west side of Maxwell Park from Broadway to Orange and continues southerly on the east side of the SCE Easement from Orange Ave. to Lola Ave. The SCE Easement has a north-south orientation and is situated between Dale St. to the west and Magnolia Ave. to the east. The 15-foot wide trail offers plenty of room for children riding their bicycles to school, for residents to take a walk or run, and for families and friends to connect on a weekend.

As part of this project the City installed chain link fencing, and an 8-foot high pre-cast concrete wall was installed on the easterly side.  Our residents in the adjacent homes appreciate the additional privacy and security. This trail includes a total of five bicycle/pedestrian roadway crossings:  at Lola Ave., Ball Rd. Stonybrook Dr., Orange Ave., and Broadway. The City installed ADA compliant curbs ramps, signage and pavement markings, crosswalk and pavement striping, and at Ball, Orange and Broadway signalized crossings.

Improve the Boulevard
The City of Anaheim was awarded nearly $500,000 from the California Strategic Growth Council under the Sustainable Communities Planning Grant and Incentives Program to develop a specific plan for the commercial areas of West Anaheim, with an emphasis on Beach Boulevard.  Extensive community input is key to the success of this planning effort.

The goal of developing a specific plan for this area is to guide and encourage future public and private investment.  This planning effort provides an opportunity for the City to review its land use regulations in light of current economic conditions, with input from the community. The end result will be a specific plan that will foster sustainable private redevelopment.

There will be several opportunities for residents and business owners to share their thoughts and ideas throughout this planning process.  Community members are invited to attend an open house to learn more about this project on Saturday, June 28 from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.   At this event, attendees will also have an opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas on how to strengthen the community.

This open house will be held at:
Haskett Library Branch
2650 West Broadway
Anaheim, CA
