| ANAHEIM, CA - (July 23, 2004) - The City of Anaheim and its information technology partner, EDS, are working on a public/private collaboration to implement an Enterprise Virtual Operations Center (EVOC). The EVOC operates as a daily tool for helping public safety first responders and key City decision-makers use technology to reduce the impact of, respond to and recover from every day incidents, natural disasters and life-threatening emergencies. The new virtual operations center will be showcased at the Experience IT 2004 conference at the Disneyland Hotel on July 29 and 30. Sponsored by the City of Anaheim, EDS and Government Technology Magazine, the conference promises a dialogue on how federal, state and local governments are leveraging IT innovation through public/private collaboration to connect, protect, and serve citizens better than ever. Anaheim has been testing the EVOC platform this month. The easy-to-navigate web-like format allows public safety and other City leaders the opportunity to utilize data integration and communication allowing faster, better decisions; threat assessment and detection; team collaboration; increased visibility and awareness; and interoperability among agencies at the state and local level. Using its unique dashboard configuration, the EVOC consolidates operational and incident information, city/regional situational information, the latest DHS and law enforcement intelligence, technical reference information, breaking news capsules as well as incident management policies and lessons learned into a common operational picture. The suite of tools and assets available through the EVOC will improve communications, information sharing, and intra/inter-agency collaboration, resulting in a higher level of situational awareness and faster planning, to allow for more effective decision-making. The EVOC provides the most comprehensive up-to-date information and communication services, presenting the single point interface for city, state and federal emergency response. The key components of a fully implemented EVOC include: * - Robust knowledge portal * - Incident management tools * - Redundant, high-speed communication infrastructure with a pervasive wireless capability connecting all city and regional emergency responders * - Incident details through CAD, RMS and live video feeds * - Geographical maps with area and building layouts * - Real-time positions of vehicles and personnel using GPS and GIS * - Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear detection sensors * - Central document repository with mission critical information * - Surveillance Video and Conferencing Media Contact: Ruth Ruiz 714.765.5060 more city news
