| ANAHEIM, CA - (January 21, 2005) - Today Orange County Superior Court Judge Peter Polos denied the City of Anaheim’s request for a preliminary injunction against the Anaheim Angels, allowing them to begin use of the proposed team name of the “Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.” The judge did confirm that the word “Anaheim” must remain in the name of the team and set another court date for March 8 at 8:30 a.m.
"We are disappointed that Judge Polos was unable to grant the preliminary injunction against the Angels today. However, we knew this would be a lengthy process and we are confident that we will prevail once this case goes to trial,” said John James Nicoletti, spokesperson for the City of Anaheim. “Our ultimate goal is for the team to adhere to the terms of their contract and to permanently restore Anaheim to the Angels' brand.”
“Though we will continue to vigorously defend our contract with Angels' management, we urge Southern California baseball fans to support the Angels' ballplayers this season in their quest to bring another world championship to Anaheim,” added Nicoletti.
