Anaheim Moves to Protect Home from Continued Hillside Movement
ANAHEIM, CA - (March 3, 2005) - The Anaheim City Manager, acting within his capacity as the City's Director of Emergency Services, today issued a second order under the Proclamation of Local Emergency that was declared on February 9.  In order to protect the property at 349 Ramsgate, the City will demolish the house previously under construction at 357 Ramsgate.  The demolition will take place on Friday, March 4 at 7 a.m.

According to the City's contracted geologists, who have monitored the slow-moving deterioration of the hillside, the imminent collapse of the structure at 357 Ramsgate now poses a threat to the home being completed at 349 Ramsgate.  With that recommendation, the City will act in order to protect public safety.

The City also has notified the Royal Ridge and Sycamore Hills homeowners associations that preliminary assessments have tentatively determined the current land movement has the potential to expand into Ramsgate Drive itself and affect the property to the south.  This continued movement could affect several public utility facilities that are beneath the street.  In order to continue the assessments, the City has asked the associations for permission to place underground instruments which will monitor water and land movements beneath the surface of the private streets and provide information regarding the underlying geology.
