Orange County Superior Court Judge Denies Anaheim's Request for Injunction in Angels Case
ANAHEIM, CA - (March 2, 2006) - Orange County Superior Court Judge Peter Polos has denied the City of Anaheim's request for a permanent injunction, allowing Angels Baseball, L.P. to continue using two geographic locations in its name.  The judge's ruling follows a month-long trial in which attorneys for the City of Anaheim stated that the name change was a transparent attempt to eliminate Anaheim from the team name completely.

"We believe that the intent of the parties that negotiated this contract, Disney and the City of Anaheim, was that Anaheim should receive the same benefits as any other Major League Baseball city," said Mayor Curt Pringle. "We were hopeful that after hearing the strong evidence presented during the trial that Judge Polos would grant injunctive relief, protecting the Anaheim taxpayers' interests. He has made his decision. Now, we, as a City Council, must make some decisions with regard to an appeal."

The Angels are in the middle of a 33-year lease agreement with the City to play their home games in the City-owned stadium, as they have since 1966.  The City Council will discuss whether further action is necessary at its meeting on March 7.
