Anaheim’s 2009 Rose Parade Float
The charming presentations of a music box have provided entertainment to children and adults for centuries – and the City of Anaheim continued the tradition with “Crank Up the Entertainment.” A much larger-than-life music box displays many of the entertainment offerings of Orange County’s premiere destination city: Angel Stadium, Anaheim GardenWalk, the Grove of Anaheim, the City’s Convention Center where the NBA D-League’s Anaheim Arsenal train and play, Honda Center, the magic of the Disneyland Resort and it’s nightly fireworks, and a salute to the City’s position as host to the Olympic Gold Medal winning U.S. Men’s National Volleyball team. Also featured on the float was an artistic adaptation of the city seal which honors the community’s rich agricultural history, along with sculpted depictions of the City tree – the magnolia – and actual gardens of the calendula, which is the official City flower.
The gigantic music box was decorated with yellow chrysanthemums, button mums, fine cut strawflower, accented with braid of gold clover seed, fine cut yellow strawflower and fine cut everlasting. The Grove is built of sesame seed, onion seed, poppy seed, lettuce seed, and fine ground walnut shell – accented by a fountain of fine cut blue statice. Angel Stadium has a roof of ground parsley flakes, walls of strawflower, onion seed and nori. The Disney castle has turrets topped in light and dark blue statice, accented with everlasting and clover seed; walls of strawflower, ground rice and fine ground walnut shells, and flags of gold clover seed. The Honda Center is topped with white strawflower, and has walls of fine ground split pea, onion seed, flax seed, poppy seed and ground rice. The float is topped with China mums, iris, roses, flax leaves, daisies and orchids.
