Each individual competing for a position in the City of Anaheim will be evaluated solely on the qualifications they bring to that position and he/she will be rated against job related criteria. How to Apply for a City Position
All applicants applying for City positions must submit a City of Anaheim Employment Application form and any required supplemental questionnaires or materials in order to be considered in the recruitment process.  You may submit this form and other required information on-line at www.anaheim.net or hard copy in person or mail at City of Anaheim, 201 S. Anaheim Blvd., #501, Anaheim, CA  92805.  No more than one application per position please.

Please be sure to provide average number of hours you work(ed) if your experience is (was) part-time. Try to focus on information you are providing on the employment application to education and experience that is specifically applicable to the job for which you are applying. Other information may be provided, but full consideration will be based only on those skills that specifically qualify you for the position being recruited.

  • A resume may be required for some positions, but a resume will not be accepted as a substitute for a completed City employment application. It is important that you do not indicate "see attached resume" in lieu of fully providing the information requested on the employment application.

  • If a supplemental questionnaire is required as part of the application packet, you must complete and submit it with your application for consideration in the recruitment process.

  • Your application must be signed, dated and returned to Human Resources Department on or before the filing deadline date or mailed in by the posted deadline. If you are using an expedited mailing service, please make sure the delivery is guaranteed by the filing deadline. Once you have submitted your application packet, please be sure to immediately notify Human Resources of any changes in your personal information such as your phone number or address.
  • Electronic applications will be signed at time of hire.

Recruitment Process: After the application deadline, the assigned Personnel Analyst will review the job applications and materials submitted by all applicants. Based on the information provided, the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the selection process. Each selection process may be different depending on the type of job for which you are applying. Usually, our testing process will consist of one or more of the following:

  • Written Test - Written tests are designed to test general aptitude or specific knowledge of the technical aspects of the job for which you are applying. You may wish to thoroughly review the job flier to familiarize yourself with the areas, which may be tested.

  • Performance/Practical or Agility Examination - Practical examinations are typically given for positions, which require a specialized skill or ability, such as typing proficiency or the operation of special equipment. You may or may not be given prior information regarding the content of the exam, depending on the nature of the job for which you are applying. If you are informed of the general content of the exam in advance, we encourage you to take the opportunity to practice your skills.

  • Oral Interviews - Those applicants who are successful in passing the initial testing and/or screening process will be invited to an oral interview. Oral interviews are typically conducted by a panel of qualified subject matter experts. Please dress in professional attire which is appropriate for the position for which you are applying. We recommend that you research the job thoroughly to determine what knowledge and skills may be evaluated during the interview. Keep in mind that you will be asked to discuss your qualifying background. You may want to prepare by practicing an opening statement regarding your specific education and experience. Try to relax and provide concise but complete responses to the panel's questions. The interview will last approximately 30 - 45 minutes, depending on the position for which you are applying.

  • Following the selection process, Human Resources will notify you, in writing, of the results of the recruitment. If you are successful in passing the selection process, your name will be placed on an eligibility list for the current position opening as well as any future positions which may become available for up to 12 months after the eligibility list was established. Depending on the number of candidates who were successful in being placed on the eligibility list, the City Department which is attempting to fill the vacant position may elect to second interview some or all of the candidates who are on the eligibility list prior to making a final decision to hire.

  • Reference Checks will be conducted by the City to verify employment related information for all potential employees prior to extending a job offer. This is done to ensure that individuals who join the City workforce are well qualified and have a strong potential to be successful in their employment here at the City of Anaheim.

Additional inquiries may be necessary depending on the position for which you are applying. Human Resources will also schedule a post-offer physical examination once a job offer has been made.

Employment Benefits:
Vacation
Employees accumulate 13 days of vacation leave per year, increasing to a total of 29.25 days after twenty-four years of service. Employees are able to receive a cash payoff of some vacation hours.
Holidays Ten paid holidays per year.
Sick Leave Employees accumulate three hours of sick leave per pay period with annual cash payoff benefits after 175 hours of accumulation. (Safety employees participate in a Paid Leave Program).
Retirement The City of Anaheim is a member of the California Public Employees Retirement system and provides 2.7% at age 55 benefits (effective 12/2/2005). The city pays 7% on behalf of the employee, while employees pay 1%. Safety (Police and Fire) have 3% @ 50 benefit. Safety employees contribute 9% and additional amounts as required by labor agreements. City employees are not enrolled in Social Security, and there is no 6.2% deduction. Medicare coverage is mandatory and the City and employees each pay 1.45%. Employees are enrolled in a Retiree Health Savings plan with employee and employer contributions.
Health Plans The City offers employees a choice of four comprehensive health care plans. Monthly costs are mostly paid by the City for employees and their dependents.
Life Insurance The City of Anaheim offers and participates in the payment of a group life insurance program for the employees and their eligible dependents. Short and Long term disability insurance coverage is provided.
Dental Four dental plans are offered after six months employment with monthly cost mostly paid by the City.
Full Time Management Employees Annual merit increases of up to 4.5% are achieved through the City's Management Appraisal Performance System. Managers whose salary falls below the market level will be eligible for a 6 month merit review.
Part Time Employees

Part time employees are enrolled in a special deferred compensation plan. Employees contribute 3.75% of their earnings (before taxes) and the City matches their contribution. Both contributions become the employee's funds at the time of benefit payment.

Part time employees who average 30 hours per week are enrolled in the Public Employees Retirement system (PERS). In addition to the city contribution, Anaheim pays a portion of the employee contribution. These employees are not eligible for the special deferred compensation plan.
