| What is Paint Your Heart Out Anaheim?
A private, non-profit organization, Paint Your Heart Out Anaheim recruits volunteers from the community and uses donated supplies and materials or those bought with donations to repair, and refurbish homes for low income senior or disabled Anaheim homeowners. Criteria for the recipients includes: low income according to HUD guidelines, owns their home, has an Anaheim address and is either over 65 years old or receiving disability. Since 1991, 441 homes have been refurbished, a value of three million dollars in neighborhood improvements, at no cost to the home owners.
In 2000, PYHOA expanded its services to include renovating historic structures and building homes for low to moderate income families. This project will also serve as a fundraising mechanism for PYHOA, once the properties are sold.
Paint Your Heart Out Anaheim activities include:
Repairing and painting 40-50 homes each year Applications reviewed Sept-Jan. Applications approved Feb.
Repairs made March/April Homes prepared for painting April Homes painted the first Saturday in May
A minimum of two fund raising events a year: June and Oct.
Renovating or building housing:
- Ongoing projects will be identified and brought to the Board as warranted
- First project closed escrow May, 2000.
- PYHOA has a Board of Directors, with 21 members.
Build Your Heart Out Anaheim is a sub-committee of PYHOA. Both projects involve identifying adult volunteers, tradespeople, donors and community leaders to conduct the activities.
