Anaheim Public Utilities oversees the cleanup of approximately 50 sites in the City involving soil and/or groundwater contamination caused by releases from underground storage tank systems. Department staff works with site owners and consultants to ensure that contamination is assessed and remedial action is taken in order to protect our community’s groundwater resources. Over 300 contaminated sites have been properly cleaned up in Anaheim .
It should be noted that in some cases a site may be considered adequately cleaned up and receive a No Further Action letter even though trace amounts of contamination may still be present. However, if there is a change in land use, the residual contamination could possibly pose a threat to future occupants of a site and additional work may be required. It is always prudent to call our offices to obtain information on UST cleanup sites when considering a land use change.
