Information for Obtaining a Massage Technician License
in the City of Anaheim
First, obtain an application for a Massage Technician license from the Business Licensing Division on the first floor of City Hall East.
Turn in your application and pay the necessary fees at Business Licensing. Make your appointment for your fingerprints and a 6-plex photo. This can be done in person at the Front Counter of the Police Department (425 S. Harbor Blvd.), or you may call (714)765-1900 and ask for the Front Counter. You will inform them that you need to get your fingerprints and photos for a Massage Technician license. Complete this as soon as you pay the necessary fees as fingerprint appointments book quickly.
After completing your prints, your application will be sent to the Vice Detail for further investigation. Within approximately two weeks, the Vice Detail will notify you of a future test date. The tests are offered monthly. Studying for these tests is strongly recommended.
The applicant is responsible for bringing a model/body with them on the day of their test. The model needs to have their bathing suit on under their street clothes as they will be asked to disrobe for the practical (hands-on) test.
There will be three tests: a practical test where the applicant will demonstrate an actual massage, a massage written test, and a test on the Anaheim Municipal Code. You can obtain the Anaheim Municipal Code section (4.29 AMC) on line at www.amlegal.com/anaheim_ca/.
Qualifications for a Massage Technician license include: 500 hours of schooling from an approved or recognized school of massage, valid CPR and First Aide cards from either the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association, three letters of good moral character, and a picture ID with proof of birth date and current address.
If you require additional information you may call Business Licensing at 714-765-5194 or S.P.S.R. Michele Irwin of the Vice Detail at 714-765-1461.
