Deputy Chief - Julian Harvey
A former member of the U.S. National Water Polo Team, Julian Harvey began his career in public service as a lifeguard in Laguna Beach, where he eventually promoted to Marine Safety Lieutenant. Julian joined the Anaheim Police Department in 1992.
As a police officer he has been assigned as a Patrol Officer, a Field Training Officer, a member of the S.W.A.T. Team, a Gang Enforcement Investigator, Helicopter Pilot and Flight Instructor.
In 2001, Julian was promoted to sergeant. As a sergeant Julian worked as a Patrol Sergeant, Internal Affairs Sergeant and supervised the Gang Enforcement Unit.
In 2005, Julian was promoted to police lieutenant. He was assigned as Patrol Watch Commander, and Bureau Commander in Strategic Services, Air Support, the Orange County Family Justice Center, Vice / Narcotics Criminal Intelligence, and Crimes Persons Investigations.
In 2012, Julian was promoted Captain. He has led the Operations and Operations Support Divisions as well as the Tactical Response Group.
With a professional history of bringing innovative ideas and solutions to long-term problems, Captain Harvey is committed to making a positive impact in communities and neighborhoods throughout Anaheim and Orange County. Serving as a Trustee for the Orange County Family Justice Center Foundation, he recognizes the value in combating family violence and helping victims, children and families break the cycle of violence that grips and destroys countless lives.
Captain Harvey holds a Master’s Degree in Emergency Services Management from California State University, Long Beach and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Ecology from U.C. Irvine. He is also a 2013 graduate of California P.O.S.T. Command College.
