Investigation Division Commander - Ben Hittesdorf
In 1981, Ben began his law enforcement career as a Reserve Officer with the Fountain Valley Police Department after graduating from the Golden West Police Academy. Ben began working full time as a Police Officer at the Garden Grove Police Department. In 1990 Ben lateralled to the Anaheim Police Department where he worked Patrol, Community Policing Team, Community Services as a D.A.R.E. Officer, Field Training Officer, SWAT Team member, and in Traffic Bureau as an Accident Investigator and Motor Officer.
In 1997, Ben was promoted to Sergeant. As a Sergeant, Ben worked as a supervisor in Patrol, FTO Sergeant, Scout Sniper Unit Sergeant, Traffic Sergeant, Internal Affairs Sergeant, and as the Training Sergeant. In 2004, Ben was promoted to Lieutenant. He worked as a Watch Commander, Crime Suppression Bureau Commander, Community Services Bureau Commander, Homeland Security/Emergency Management Bureau Commander, Tactical Response Group (SWAT) Commander, and Crimes Persons Commander.
Ben is a recipient of the Medal of Valor, Joseph T. Molloy Career Achievement award, Special Recognition Award, and Community Service Award. Ben attended the University of La Verne, achieving his bachelors of Science Degree in Organizational Management and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Chapman University.
Ben enjoys spending time with his family, working on his house, and reading, especially historical fiction and war history. He is an avid UCLA Bruins fan and enjoys welding and woodworking. Ben resides in the City of Anaheim, California and is married to Tracy, and together they have four daughters.
