Shelley McKerren grew up back east and moved to Brea, California after high school.
Shelley applied to Brea PD and became their first female police cadet and eventually a police dispatcher. She completed an AA in Police Science.
Several years later she became a Police Dispatcher at Huntington Beach PD.
She returned to Brea as a Part time police/fire dispatcher. She was eventually promoted to Communications Manager. Shelley joined APD as Communications Manager on July 28, 1995. During this time she jointly performed the task of IT. In 2009, she became the full time IT Manager.
Shelley also possesses a Bachelors degree in Management and a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership. She became one of the first civilians to attend and graduate from the POST Command College.
On October 11, 2013, Shelley was appointed as the first civilian division commander at APD, overseeing IT, Communications, Records, and Property and Evidence.
