The Citizen Academy is designed to teach citizens about the philosophy, policies, and guiding principles of law enforcement and ethical conduct governing police services in our community. The 14 week course is a condensed version of the basic training curriculum taken by new police officers during their pre-service education and training. Students will receive Basic Classroom instruction by personnel from many Divisions including presentations and demonstrations from Homicide, Narcotics, K-9, and S.W.A.T.

Message from the Chief of Police

The City of Anaheim continues to grow. This creates new challenges that we, as a community, cannot ignore. We need to look at how we can maintain the quality of life in the City of Anaheim that we have come to enjoy.

The Anaheim Police Department embraces the Problem Oriented Policing approach to crime and public disorder. We continue to build on the foundation of Community Oriented Policing developed over the past several years. Solving specific problems at the neighborhood level requires a real working partnership with resident and business owners. The Citizen Police Academy gives community members information necessary for them to partner with the Police Department in making the Department a nation-wide leader in Problem Oriented Policing. By becoming a partner with the Anaheim Police Department, community members agree to support specific problem solving efforts.

The Citizen Police Academy also provides an excellent opportunity for police personnel to receive feedback directly form the community we serve. In addition to learning about police department operations, you will be able to give us your thoughts and ideas about how policing should adapt to this changing community.

You will find this adventure into policing interesting, fun, and worthwhile. Please consider submitting this application and become an active partner with the Anaheim Police Department. Thank you for your willingness to help make Anaheim the safest place to live and work in Orange County.

There are two sessions each year beginning each February and August. The Academy is a total of 14 weeks, with classes in the evenings from 6-9:00 p.m. Classes meet at the Anaheim Police Department at 425 S. Harbor Blvd., in the auditorium. Graduates are encouraged to pursue various volunteer opportunities with the Police Department.
