Gene Autry: Angels Baseball legend and entertainment icon, Gene Autry, is the sixth recipient on the Anaheim/Orange County Walk of Stars. He is often credited for his contributions to radio, film, motion pictures, and television performances, which earned him his Star.
Righteous Brothers: Dubbed the founders of “blue-eyed soul,” The Righteous Brothers remain a favorite group among millions of fans, and their musical relevance continues to be a staple in American pop music culture. Both Medley and Hatfield were raised in Orange County: Medley in Santa Ana, and Hatfield in Anaheim. The Righteous Brothers’ contributions to the music industry, along with their constant support of the Orange County community, will now be forever remembered in Anaheim.
Donna and John Crean: The Creans founded Fleetwood Enterprise, Inc. in Anaheim in 1950, and the company remains one of the country’s largest designers and manufacturers of recreational vehicles (RVs). The Creans generously gave and continue to support numerous organizations including, Lutheran High School in Irvine, Anaheim’s Children’s Bureau of Southern California, the Anaheim chapter of Cystic Fibrosis, Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, The Orange County Philharmonic Society, the YWCA Hotel for Women, the Crystal Cathedral, the Santa Ana Zoo, and children’s hospitals and homeless shelters.
Walt Disney: Walt Disney was selected to receive the first star because of his impact on the region locally, nationally and internationally. "Anaheim is a place where people come to realize their dreams- a place where imagination, inspiration, creativity and hard work turn those dreams into realities. Nobody personalizes these traits more than Walt Disney,” said Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle.
Carl and Margaret Karcher: The Karchers, founders of Carl Karcher Enterprises and the Carl's Jr. restaurant chain, received the star in recognition of their entrepreneurial and philanthropic ventures throughout Anaheim & Orange County. “The Karcher family has touched countless lives through their generosity as business leaders and philanthropists, and we are thrilled to see Carl honored for his efforts in such a lasting and significant way,” said Andrew F. Puzder.
Dr. Sammy Lee: Dr. Sammy Lee, a first generation Korean-American, won gold medals at the 1948 London Olympic Games, and the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games, and in doing so became the first male diver to win back-to-back gold medals. Dr. Lee served on the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports under Presidents Eisenhower, Nixon, Carter and Bush. He was named winner of the 1953 James. E. Sullivan Award. He was also named Outstanding American-born Korean of the past 50 years by the American Korean Society (1967), and Orange County’s Sportsman of the Year (1976). He was honored as the first Grand Marshall of Orange County’s Korean Community Parade (1981), and he was inducted into Orange County Sports Hall of Fame (1984).
Peter Muth: Peter Muth, with his father George Muth and brother-in-law Frank Hertz, founded the ORCO Block Company in 1946. Over the years, ORCO literally has provided the foundation on which much of Southern California is built. ORCO also has become one of the top 10 concrete block manufacturers in the nation. In 1989, Muth and ORCO Block were named Manufacturing Entrepreneurs of the year by Arthur Young and Inc. Magazine for L.A. County. Each year Peter and his wife, Mary, contributed money to more than 75 non-profit organizations including Goodwill Industries, the American Red Cross, the United Way, the YMCA Hotel for homeless women, and Mater Dei High School.
Monsignor Sammon: Monsignor John Sammon’s contributions and devotion as chaplain to Orange County fire and police departments has earned him a star on the Anaheim/Orange County Walk of Stars. Msgr. Sammon worked for the Diocese of Orange as vicar to the bishops and chaplain to fire and police departments and was appointed the first vicar for pastoral and community affairs when it was established in 1976. His selfless attitude brought him to many fire sites as his presence put the firefighters at ease.
Henry and Susan Samueli: As owners of the Anaheim Ducks and the management company for Honda Center, the Samuelis are well recognized leaders in the sports industry and Orange County business community. They are also known for their many philanthropic endeavors. Susan, the executive director of the Samueli Foundation, has overseen grants to hundreds of organizations in the areas of education, health, social services, spirituality and the arts. The couple was listed in Forbes Magazine’s The World's Richest People in 2006.
Bruno Serato: Born in France and raised both in France and in Italy, Bruno Serato continually seeks ways to give back to the community. Among the organizations he supports are the Boys and Girls Club in Anaheim, Paint Your Heart Out, an organization that renovates the homes of the elderly and infirmed, and Caterina’s Girls Club, which Serato founded in honor of his mother to benefit underprivileged girls in Anaheim. His philanthropic efforts have raised nearly $1 million.
Taormina Family: The Taormina family built their Anaheim-based business, Taormina Industries, into the largest privately-owned solid waste and recycling firm in the nation. After merging their firm with Republic Services in 1997, the Taormina’s have pursued numerous investment and entrepreneurial opportunities. As the founders of Clean City, Inc., the Taorminas are involved in, support, or have founded dozens of community organizations and charitable groups throughout Anaheim and Orange County.
Yorba Family: The Yorba family, who were among the early settlers of Spanish California and once owned much of the land in present day Orange County received a star in honor of their many contributions to the rich history of the region. Don Bernardo Yorba I acquired numerous large territories to supplement his family’s massive cattle operation and introduced irrigation agriculture to the area by utilizing the Santa Ana River, Anaheim’s namesake, to ensure that the land would remain productive. Their star will honor their family for generations to come.
