"Offering sweet fragrance, nutrition & commerce"… Anaheim was established adjacent to the Santa Ana River in 1855 as a colony wholly devoted to viniculture. The first commercial venture was the growing of mission grapes. A devastating vine virus in the 1880s forced the community to diversify their crop planting. With the introduction of the oranges and because of its successful marketing, Anaheim soon found itself surrounded by orange groves.
