Group Tour Packages

 Opening Doors to Nature...

     You are invited to Oak Canyon Nature Center for a naturalist guided tour. This natural parkland is one of the few remaining areas of oak woodland and coastal sage in our region with a variety of wildlife. The Nature Center offers a variety of program options, which can be designed to meet the needs of your group. Tour programs are by reservation only and are adaptable for all audiences. Call early for reservations and the best selection of dates and times. Suggested tour program themes include:

 

  • Reptiles and Amphibians - Observe distinctive adaptations for survival in extreme environments.
  • Insects and other Arthropods - Intriguing creatures with exoskeletons, jointed legs and segments.
  • Birds - Their unique features such as wings, feathers and beaks make the difference.
  • Mammals - Uncover evidence of our often-elusive visitors - tracks, fur, scat, burrows and nests.
  • Ecology and Plant Communities - Explore the oak woodland and coastal sage habitat.
  • Earth Science - From the ground up - soil, rocks, and the fossil evidence tell a story of the past.
  • Native Harvest - Native peoples depended upon the bounty that nature provides - try a sample.
  • Trailblazer - Learn the outdoor skills of orienteering, animal tracking and hiking safety.

         

Tour Package Options Include:

  • Acorn - This 1 hour excursion provides a general introduction to the canyon's plants and animals and includes a Nature Walk and Museum Visit.  The fee is $3.00 per participant.
  • Polliwog - Looking for a special outing for your preschool group?  This 1 hour program encourages participants to observe the natural world through the senses of sight, smell, touch, and sound.  The program includes a Nature Walk and "Make and Take" activities.  The fee is $4.00 per child.
  • Discovery - A 1½ hour program that includes a Nature Walk, Museum Visit, Live Animal Demonstration, and Nature Activity at a fee of $4.00 per participant.
  • Explorer - This 2 hour exploration gives you extra time to enjoy a Nature Walk, Museum Visit, Live Animal Demonstration, Nature Activity and a Craft.  The fee is $6 per participant.
  • Nature Patch - A 2½ hour in-depth excursion that includes a Nature Walk, Museum Visit, Live Animal Demonstration, Nature Activity, Craft and the awarding of a special patch.  Snack time included.  (Snack not provided.)  The fee is $8.00 per participant .
  • Field Studies - Experience a 2½ hour investigation of the flora and fauna of the costal sage and chaparral communities.  Designed for 4th - 6th grade students, this program includes a Nature Walk, Museum Visit, Live Animal Demonstration, and Field Studies Activities with Worksheets at a fee of $7.00 per participant .
