Parents, are you interested in your child(ren) taking a fun and educational nature class? Great! Share your plans with friends and sign up today! This is the best way to insure your child’s participation. A minimum six pre-registered participants is required for Nature Center staff to hold a class. On Thursdays, the registrations for programs scheduled for the upcoming week are verified. Programs with less than a minimum of six registered participants will be cancelled. A sign listing the cancellations will be posted in the interpretive center entryway. Please call the Nature Center directly at (714) 998-8380 to confirm current program status.

Wild Wee Ones

A new program for ages 2 to 6 held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  In our new program we will explore nature as well as some early learning skills.  Come and join us as we open the doors to discovery.

For ages 2-6 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m., $6.00 per participant.

Did you brush your teeth today? Did you have some breakfast?  Find out how every day things we do are really simple science.

When their homes are really cold they come to where we live to get warm.  How long do they stay and just where do they come from?  Come learn about our winter waders and maybe you’ll see one.

What is a conifer?  A conifer is a pine tree.  Come learn about these wonderful trees and see our conifer here at the canyon.

It’s rainy season! We’ll talk about the rain and why it is so important.  See what the rain can do and how pretty things are after a good rain.

A kangaroo has a pouch and so do other animals.  These animals are called marsupials.  Come learn about these wonderful animals and meet our resident marsupial.

It’s that time of year again when everyone is in love.  See what animals do to get each others attention.  Then you can make a craft for some one you love.

The canyon wasn’t always here; find out how it got there.  Learn about the wild things nature does to create beautiful canyons just like ours and some even bigger.

Come and learn about out buzzzin’ bees.  We see them all over but what are they doing?  Learn about their hard work and why the help nature so much.

Plant eaters are called herbivores.  Come learn about the herbivores that live in the canyon.  Then enjoy an herbivore snack.  

1/27      Let’s Make a Mess (#18209)
Tues.   
Wear some old clothes and come explore different things you can do to make a mess. Use your imagination and make a wonderful creation.  Maybe you can even take home a messy concoction.

1/29      Fishy Friends (#18210)
Thurs. 
Come and learn some facts about our fishy friends.  Do they all lay eggs?  How do they Breath?  How big do they get?  Learn the answer to these questions and many more as we explore our fishy friends.

2/3        Ants on a Twig (#18211)
Tues.   
Ants are insects but what do they do?  Learn about ants and how many different kinds there are.  Learn the different things they do that help our outdoor world. 

2/5        What Bear Goes Where? (#18212)
Thurs. 
Polar bears are white, Grizzly bears are Brown. There are many different kind of bears, but where do they live? Come learn about some different bears and see why they live where they live.

2/10      Animal Poems (#18213)
Tues.   
Come over for a nice relaxing day of animal poem reading.  We will lay on some bean bags, have a snack, and read some nice poems about animals.  Then we will try to make our own kind of picture poem. 

2/12      Let’s Rock (#18214)
Thurs. 
There are many different kinds of rocks and they don‘t all look the same.  We will look at them and talk about what makes them different.       

2/17      Who’s House is That? (#18215)
Tues.   
Some animals live in trees, some live on the ground, some even live at home with us.  We will talk about the different kinds of homes animals live in then take a walk around the canyon to see what we can find.  

2/19      What’s For Dinner?  (#18216)
Thurs.
When were hungry we go to the cupboard and get our food.  What do animals do?  Find out what different animals eat and what they do to get their food. 

2/24      Starry, Starry Night (#18217)
Tues.   
The nights sky is full of stars, are they all stars?  We’ll talk about what’s in our night’s sky and how everything we see might not be a star. 

2/26      Warm and Fuzzy Friends (#18218)
Thurs. 
It’s cold outside but the animals don’t have clothes.  Do they turn on a heater or get a blanket? How do they keep warm?  We’ll learn about some cold weather animals and what they do to keep themselves warm.     

3/3        Nature’s Music (#18219)
Tues.     
Stop and listen outside and see what kind of music nature brings.  We will take a walk and explore with our ears to hear the different kind of music that nature makes.         

3/5        It’s Not So Scary Outside (#18220)
Thurs. 
Some times outside can seem like a scary place.  Once you know the dangers it’s not so scary.  Learn how to be safe outside and why sometimes things seem scarier that they really are.




Birthday Brigade

Celebrate at Oak Canyon Nature Center. Your party will enjoy a fun filled safari with a naturalist including: guided wilderness trail hike, discovery activities and games, museum visit, creative creature craft, live animal demonstration, special time for refreshments and gifts, birthday badges, safari party hats, party favor bags with safari surprises inside and special gift for the birthday guest. Additional party favors are available through the Oak Canyon Committee Sales Merchandise such as gems, pencils and patches. Each program is 2 hours long including refreshment time. Programs are by reservation only and a deposit is required. You bring refreshments, table covers, serving utensils and decorations (no balloons) and we supply the fun! The exact makeup of the program varies with the audience. Recommended for ages 4 and older. Call (714) 998-8380 for more information.
