Underground Storage Tank Program

The purpose of this program is to ensure that hazardous substances stored in underground tanks are not released into the groundwater and/or environment. Specialists from the EPS inspect underground storage tanks (UST), monitoring equipment and tank records; and issue upgrade compliance certificates to ensure that the systems comply with applicable Federal and State laws and regulations.

UST Owner/Operator Responsibilities

Obtain a Permit to Operate a UST system, and pay an annual fee to operate a UST that is used for storage of hazardous substances
Comply with construction and monitoring requirements for UST systems
Report and clean up all unauthorized releases from UST systems
Ensure that each tank system meets upgrade requirements
