RELEASE DATE: May 3, 2000
SUBJECT: Arrest of Serial Robbery Suspects
Suspects: (All are Anaheim residents)
In early April a series of strong-arm robberies in bank parking lots began. In this series of robberies, employees of local businesses were robbed as they approached their banks with bank deposit bags. Similar robberies had occurred in Anaheim, Fountain Valley, and Huntington Beach. Normally, the suspects did not display a weapon, and after the robberies the suspects fled on foot across a major street into a residential area. In one robbery in Fountain Valley, the suspects were seen entering a black and silver van after the robbery.
A possible suspect vehicle was located in Anaheim on Wednesday April 26. Detectives and Investigators from the Anaheim Police Department and the Fountain Valley Police Department initiated surveillance on the van. During the first day of surveillance, the suspects were seen casing several gas stations as an armored truck was servicing the gas stations.
Detectives and Investigators from Anaheim PD and Fountain Valley PD maintained surveillance of the suspects. On Tuesday May 2 at about 1145 hours, the suspects committed a commercial robbery at an ARCO gas station at Beach and Orangewood in the City of Stanton. During this robbery, two suspects entered the business, distracted the lone female employee, and bound her with tape during the robbery. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money from the clerk and fled. The suspects were followed until they all met together in Seal Beach after the robbery. The four suspects were arrested at their vehicles, and the money from Tuesday's robbery and a handgun were recovered. The Orange County Sheriff's Department handled the crime report from Tuesday's robbery. The Orange County Sheriff's Department report number is 00-87752.
Subsequent investigation and interviews have linked these suspects to over 10 robberies dating back to December 1999 in Anaheim, Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach.
All of the suspects have been booked at the Anaheim Police Department for Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery.
