HIRING PROCESS FOR PART TIME TRAFFIC CONTROL ASSISTANT
ENTIRE PROCESS COULD TAKE UP TO SIX MONTHS
1st Step
File an application - If you meet the minimum requirements, you will move on to the next step.
2nd Step
Written Exam - If you pass the written exam you will move on to the next step.
3rd Step
Oral Interview – If you pass the oral interview you will move on to the next step.
4th Step
A full comprehensive background investigation will be conducted by a police officer, which includes a polygraph examination and psychological assessment. Listed below are some of the most common disqualifiers:
• If you have been convicted of a felony offense you will be disqualified.
• Candidates who have used hallucinogens, LSD, PCP, acid, heroin, injectables, and
designer drugs (including Ecstasy, Special K, GHB) you will be disqualified.
• Candidates who have been convicted of a misdemeanor offense must be off
probation or you will be disqualified.
• Candidates who have had numerous moving or equipment violations and at-fault
traffic collisions within the last seven years you will be disqualified.
If any of the common disqualifiers listed above apply to you, you will be automatically disqualified. You may, at this time, screen yourself and withdraw prior to starting the recruitment process.
Final step is a post-offer medical examination, which will be conducted once you pass the background investigation.
Would you like to go to work for an exciting public agency like the Anaheim Police Department in an entry level position? Do you possess excellent customer service skills and are interested in working with the public? If so, the Police Department is looking for individuals to direct traffic on city streets during peak traffic conditions such as Stadium and Convention Center events, traffic accidents, power outages, and other catastrophes. The Traffic Control Assistant is a person who will:
• Direct traffic on city streets during peak traffic conditions.
• Issue parking citations.
• Respond to court subpoenas and testify in court.
• Assist the public by giving directions; assist with stalled vehicles and impounding vehicles.
• Prepare written reports.
Note: This is a part time position. Assignments will average approximately 30 hours per week, but no minimum of weekly hours is guaranteed. Must be flexible for scheduling weekdays and weekends between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. The majority of the assignments are during the evenings.

$13.33 - $14.70 Per Hour
Position Requirements
This Position Requires:
• Skill in effective written and verbal communication as well as dealing diplomatically with the public and fellow employees.
• The availability to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
• The ability to stand, walk, and use both arms and legs for extended periods of time.
• The willingness to work in inclement weather.
• The ability to obtain a valid California Driver’s License by date of appointment.
• Experience directing traffic is desirable, but not a requirement.
All candidates must complete a City of Anaheim application. Applications will be accepted by the Human Resources Department on a CONTINUOUS BASIS until filled.
A writing skills examination and an oral interview will be scheduled for those candidates with qualifications most pertinent to this position.
Candidates must be specific and complete in describing their qualifications for this position. Failure to state all pertinent information may lead to elimination from competition. Further selection of candidates will be based on the completion of a background investigation (to include present and/or past use of narcotics) a polygraph examination, and a post employment medical examination.
