  • The Office of Disaster Preparedness is dedicated to providing disaster preparedness education and information to the City of Anaheim. This includes the Anaheim city government, its residents and businesses.

Disasters can strike quickly and frequently without any advance warning. Immediately after a disaster or wide-spread emergency, electricity, gas, water and telephones may not be working. Public safety services, such as fire, police and health services may be extremely limited or unavailable because as they respond to the event.

There is a very high likelihood that you will have to rely on your own training and resources for the first 72 hours after a major disaster or catastrophic event. This means "getting ready" in advance and "staying ready" over the long-term.

The city has a comprehensive Emergency Management Program which includes all elements necessary to respond quickly and effectively to major emergencies. These elements include an Emergency Operations Plan, Emergency Operations Center, Public Safety Officers, Public Education Programs and trained volunteers.

Volunteers are a vital part of the City’s disaster preparedness program. They include our Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (RACES) program. For information on upcoming disaster preparedness training, and to find out how you can be involved, visit our CERT and RACES sites.

Other useful information in disaster preparedness, family disaster planning, and current events can be found at the sites listed in the disaster preparedness links and at www.readyoc.org.
