Emergency Survival Program (ESP)

The Emergency Survival Program (ESP), formerly known as the Earthquake Survival Program, is an awareness campaign designed to increase emergency preparedness at home, in the community, at work and at school. ESP was developed by the County of Los Angeles. The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) and representatives from Contra Costa, Imperial, Inyo, Kern, Los Angeles, Marin, Mono, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz and Ventura counties, various cities, Southern California Edison, the Southern California earthquake Center, and the American Red Cross assist in the development of campaign materials and in coordination of the campaign.

Each year a list of monthly preparedness steps is recommended as an easy way for you to prepare for all hazards. You are encouraged to download the ESP materials. A complete list of available publications is listed below. Please let us know at espinfo@lacoeoc.org when you download and use these materials. We in turn will inform the authors. We hope that telling them how widely their information is being used will inspire them to write new items and keep their already published materials up-to-date. By taking simple actions each month you can help prepare your neighborhood, family and community to be self-sufficient

Tow the Preparedness Line in 2009!

Each month, this ESP series examines a different aspect of all hazards preparedness for homes, neighborhoods, businesses and schools. By the end of a year, following these segments will help prepare your family, neighbors, co-workers and classmates to work together to provide relative safety and comfort during the first hours and days following a disaster.

The ESP 2009 “Tow the Preparedness Line in 2009!" calendar summarizes the year’s suggestions on preparedness for all hazards. English language versions are available in color and in black and white. The ESP Poster provides a list of the monthly topics, they are available in color and in black and white. To access all of Focus Sheets click here. To download all documents in one PDF click here.
