Anaheim Police Department to Graduate 300 Junior Cadets
ANAHEIM, CA - (June 11, 2013) - For the past nine years, the Anaheim Police Department has sponsored a Junior Cadet instruction series in conjunction with its Cops 4 Kids program. The Anaheim Police Department Cops 4 Kids Junior Cadet Program is the only program of its kind in the state. This program is the result of a partnership with schools in the Anaheim City, Magnolia, and Centralia Schools Districts. Youth, ages 9-12, voluntarily participate or are referred to Junior Cadets by teachers and administrators who believe the youth would benefit from the "Respect Given, Respect Earned" program motto. The 14-week program is held at six school campuses throughout Anaheim and focuses on a curriculum which includes: choices/consequences, the 6 Pillars of Character, integrity, respect, and personal safety. Each Junior Cadet gives 90 minutes of their after-school time to the program, once a week.

The program culminates with an academy weekend. This year, Betsey Ross Elementary School played host to 309 Junior Cadets for their academy. Last Saturday and Sunday, Junior Cadets began their days with drill and physical training. Then they would participate in classes to enhance their knowledge of police department operations and build on their foundations of character, respect, and integrity. For many of the Junior Cadets, this is the first time they have experienced anything of this magnitude and level of commitment.

This Thursday, June 13, 2013, approximately 300 Anaheim Police Department Junior Cadets will graduate. This is the largest class in its nine year history, more than double the number of the last class. Media is welcome to attend the graduation and is encouraged to RSVP to Sgt. Bob Dunn @ 714-497-6330. Interviews will be available in both English and Spanish.

The details of the graduation include:

6:00 PM – Graduation Begins
8:30 PM – Graduation Concludes
