Arrest of Sexual Assault Suspect – Seeking Additional Victims or Witnesses
ANAHEIM, CA - (December 15, 2013) - On Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at approximately 1:20 in the afternoon, Anaheim Police Officers were called to the 7000 block of E. Shorecrest Ln. regarding an assault. They contacted a female adult victim who had several visible injuries as a result of a physical attack that she reported occurred as she was jogging the trail that runs around the Walnut Canyon Reservoir near Canyon Rim Rd. and Serrano Ave. The victim was approached by a male, who was unknown to her, who introduced himself to her and attempted to engage her in conversation. When the victim resisted his advances, the suspect struck the victim without warning. The victim fell to the ground and the suspect sat on stop of her, covering her mouth and punching her about the face and body.

As the attack continued, the suspect began to sexually assault the victim. She was able to break free and run to a nearby home to call police. When the victim was contacted by police, she was able to provide a detailed description of her attacker. Using the suspect information she provided officers were able to locate and detain a male as he walked away from the entrance of the reservoir. The victim positively identified this male as her attacker. The suspect has been identified as 55 year-old Mario Orlando Montano (DOB: 02-11-58) / Resident of Anaheim. He was arrested and booked at the Anaheim Police Department Temporary Detention Facility on suspicion of sexual assault (CA Penal Code 220) and felony assault (CA Penal Code 245). The victim was medically treated at the scene and released.

Since the arrest of the suspect, Detectives uncovered information indicating Montano may have assaulted, attempted to assault, or harassed other women in the area. We are asking anyone with information to contact Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS, www.occrimestoppers.org , or text OCCS and your tip to 274637. Below is a booking photograph from Montano’s arrest on 12-10-2013.
