Director of Public Works Natalie Meeks | Whether it's designing a major highway or new sewer and storm drain project, applying innovative traffic management techniques to solving Anaheim's traffic problems, or overseeing the construction of a new public building, Public Works provides a myriad of comprehensive services to meet a variety of the City's infrastructure, construction, and development needs.
MISSION STATEMENT
The Department of Public Works is dedicated to delivering engineering and operational services that provide the Anaheim community with pride in their City and its work force.
Specifically, the Department provides all City entities with efficient, professional and progressive service in the following areas:
Administration provides general planning and management of the department, including policy direction, and program evaluation.
Combined within Administration is Transit Services, which promotes improved mobility by enabling mode choices with reliable travel times. Transit Services encourages civic entrepreneurship and stimulates private involvement and investment in meeting both short-term needs and implementing long term transit projects.
The Department's construction activities are outlined in the City of Anaheim's Annual Budget document, Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) section. The CIP is a projection of the City's capital investments over a five-year period and addresses the need to maintain/improve the City's streets, sewers, and other infrastructure assets.
The Engineering Division includes the following sections: Traffic Planning, Traffic Systems, Traffic Operations, Design Services, Subdivisions, Records, Real Property.
The Traffic Sections provide for mobility and safety of people and goods. Services range from increasing arterial street capacity by operating Intelligent Transportation Systems infrastructure, to providing traffic planning assistance for both local and regional transportation projects. These services fit into the larger City purposes by enhancing neighborhoods by protecting residential streets from excessive cut-through traffic; providing access to businesses to build a strong economy; enhancing safety through adequate intelligent transportation systems/traffic signal construction and maintenance, arterial signing and striping.
Design Services is responsible for pavement management of the arterial highway system and the master planning/design of all arterial street, storm drain and sewer improvements involving Public Works construction. It is also responsible for coordinating with Caltrans, Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) and the Transportation Corridor Agency (TCA) on proposed freeway improvements in Anaheim.
The Subdivision/Development section provides development-related services for private sector developments and projects by other public agencies and public utilities. Subdivisions staff also issue permits for grading, construction in the public right-of-way, oversize loads and construction within Anaheim city limits.
The Records Section maintains city engineering records and other public documents.
The Real Property Section oversees the acquistion, abandonments and encroachments of public property.
Construction Services provides inspection and survey services for all City capital improvement projects. Additionally, Construction Services provides inspection services for privately funded right-of-way improvements and grading.
Financial and Administrative Services is responsible for accounting, budgeting and support services for the Department of Public Works. The division prepares and monitors the five-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) and the annual operating budgets, processes all accounting transactions, prepares special financial analyses, coordinates audit needs and special request, manages the department's administrative support staff (clerical pool), and oversees the Transporation Center. The Administration division also provides project construction contract administration, which includes advertising, bid tabulations, awards, payments, etc., through the filing of the Notice of Completion. Public improvement construction administration for all other City departments, such as Parks, Community Development, and Public Utilities is also provided.
Public Works Operations is made up of Streets and Sanitation and Resort District Maintenance Services. This division is responsible for city-wide asphalt and concrete maintenance of local streets and sidewalks, solid waste collection and disposal, storm drain and sewer maintenance, storm water pollution prevention, street sweeping, street sweeping parking control, right-of-way landscape maintenance, traffic signals, as well as the maintenance of the Anaheim Resort. |
