• Did You Know? Until the late 19th century, heating in America was most often by wood. Households used wood-burning brick fireplaces and versions of the cast iron Franklin stove, invented in 1742. • Did You Know? On November 28, 1942, the Cocoanut Grove Night Club fire, still this nation’s deadliest nightclub fire, killed 492 people. The Boston nightclub had some of its doors bricked up or bolted, and the main entrance was only a revolving door.
